FAQ

When is payment due?

A $50 deposit must be mailed within one week of your telephone registration to reserve your spot in class.  If not received within two weeks, we reserve the right to fill the class.  The balance is due on the first day of class.

Is my deposit refundable?

Deposits are non-refundable, however they may be transferred to a different session within the same year so long as you notify us of the change at least 2 weeks before the start of the unwanted session.

Can I register for more than 1 set of lessons at a time?

Yes, many students take more than one session a season.

What if my child is placed in the wrong level?

If a child is placed in the wrong level, we do the best we can to relocate him or her to the appropriate class.  If that is not possible, we will teach him or her at the skill level they are at, within the class they are currently swimming in.

What if my child misses a class?

If a child misses one or two classes, we will try to give some extra help upon their return to class if we have the staff.  If a child misses three or more classes, a credit will be issued for every day missed, after deducting the $50 deposit.  A partial credit is given for the third day of absence, plus we will try to give them some extra help upon their return to class, if staff is available.

Do you offer Make-up classes?

No, we do not offer make-ups for any missed standard classes.

What happens if my child won’t stop crying?

We do our best to help a child feel safe and welcome in this new situation.  Particularly on the first day, a young child may miss their parents, or take a little time to get to know their instructor.  However, if a child cries continuously the first and second day, it may be a sign they are not ready for class.  If the supervisor and parent agree on the decision to withdraw the child from class, a credit for the remaining days of the session will be issued.

Can I switch class time for one day?

No.

When I get there, where do I go?

Please check in at the office on the first day of class.  After the first day, you may bring your child directly to class.

Where do I stay while my child is in class?

You may sit on our patio, which has glass the entire length.  There is also an indoor waiting room and tent as further options.  You may not stay in the pool room.

What do I bring?

Please bring a bathing suit, towel, and a tie for your hair if it is long.  Bathing caps are optional.

At what level is my child able to use their goggles?

Goggles are not allowed until our fourth level Breather II.

Are classes held if it rains or storms?

We clear the pool if there is a thunder storm in the area.  Cancellations are based on our current weather conditions, which change often.

How many instructors are there per class?

There is one instructor for each class.  There is a maximum of 6 students per class.  When possible a second instructor may help for a portion of the class.

Is my child guaranteed to swim?

Every child learns at their own rate.  We do our best to help every child learn to the fullness of their potential at the time of class.

How many classes does it take to be a safe swimmer?

By the time a child has completed intermediate class, they know the basic strokes to handle themselves in open water swimming. Our highest standard class is Advanced Techniques, which further enhances the competence of each swimmer.

Is it an indoor or outdoor pool?

All of our lessons are taught in indoor pools.

What is the water temperature?

The temperature of the water at our Rocky Hill pool is around 88 degrees.

Where do you find your instructors and how are they trained?

Most of our instructors grew up in our program as students themselves.  At age 13 they are eligible to be volunteer instructor aides.  The minimum age for instructors is 16, and our staff range from age 16 to staff in their twenties.   We require our instructors to have Red Cross Lifeguard Training, which includes first aid and CPR.  Our teaching program is our own; all of our staff receives our instructor training.
